Bear and his Magical Journey

A timeless classic about a bear and his dreams

Bear is a lovable, endearing character who desires nothing more than to sleep away the world.  In the cold winter of the forest, Bear hibernates, and spends a formidable part of the winter focused on dreaming.  This is my first foray into the world of children’s books.  The concept was conceived upon about four years ago, but execution was a whole different nut to crack.

In the beginning

It all began a long, long time ago, probably before you were born. Before the internet and cellphones and all the wondrous technologies that have pervaded every aspect of our lives, somethings haven’t changed. A good story never ceases to enthrall. My journey begins precisely my parents reading bedtime stories. At first there were picture books and first readers. Then I grew and my parents still read to me, delightful characters paraded across the walls of my room as dreams and imagination intertwined in a kaleidoscope of drama, adventure, action and fun. I don’t remember when they stopped reading to me, but I continued to read in bed, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, much to the chagrin of my parents who wanted me to rise early and improve my grades!

The tradition continues, and my own children anticipate the next adventure every night. In addition to their story in bed, they hear a story on my music device that also doubles as a phone and alarm clock on occasion. Of course sometimes we read timeless classics, and sometimes I make up stories for them. Some are true, and some are fiction. Now my children want to make their own stories. It’s an exciting new beginning for them too.

Bear

Bears love to sleep and hibernate in the winter. I thought a character that has these qualities would be endearing. Of course, a big bear who sleeps a lot would help my children see that even a big bear has to go to sleep. I thought the hibernation device would be a way of introducing a dream-like world where the possibilities are endless and allow for a boundless imaginative experience.

Moon and Space

Every child dreams of space travel. Let’s face it, every 8-year old’s dream is to get into a rocket and fly into space. As a child I grew up with a deep love and fascination of worlds beyond our own. I loved paging through Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and my father taught me a few of the major constellations and how to find them in the sky. I never fully grew up, and have always been in awe. Now it’s my turn to infuse that same love and deep wonder into my children so that they learn to dream and reach beyond the stars.

Scifi and Tech

I grew up with a family deeply connected to technology and IT. I built my first computer at 8 years old; admittedly with my father’s help. I have always been intrigued with technology and bringing the themes of technology into my stories is a homage to my many interests. I hope you enjoy!
